Safety
. . . Your Family's #1 Consideration.
As we enter
into the cold winter month, you have many things to prepare your
family for. Cold and Flu season. Rain boots. Traffic jams. One thing
you don't have to worry about is the safety of your home heating
system.
- If you are a call in customer, we recommend that you do not let your tank get lower than 12" of fuel.
- Don't wait until cold weather before arranging for service.
- Annually get a professional tune-up to increase the efficiency and cleanliness of your heating system.
- Occasionally add a hot-oil treatment to your delivery to help keep the flames burning cleaner.
- Your oil
heat system protects you from dangerous levels of carbon monoxide
in the home. Due to the efficient operation of your heating equipment,
the National Fire Protection Agency does not list oil heat as
a cause of carbon monoxide poisoning.
- You're safe
from explosion. The fuel you use in your heating system won't
combine with air to make an explosive mixture.
- Heating oil
won't burn as it sits. It must be heated above 140 degrees and
placed into a compressed environment before it will ignite into
a free-burning flame.
- There is
peace of mind in knowing your heating oil is safe for your family,
so you can focus on other things.
Some basic
facts about oil heat, safety and the environment:
- According
to a report by the National Fire Protection Association, oil heat
equipment caused the least amount of deaths of all heating fuels.
Oil can't explode. Before it can
even burn, it must first be turned into a fine particle mist and
then ignited.
- While some
have characterized oil as being "dirty". In fact heating
oil is clean, contains no carcinogens, and is biodegradable. Reports
that depict oil heating as an environmental hazard are unjustified.
- A properly
maintained residential oil tank can last for decades and do not
present a threat to human health or the environment. Oil heat has
the least environmental impact of any type of space heating and
hot water fuel, attributable to it's high efficiency and clean
burning. Natural gas and propane are similarly benign, while electric,
coal and wood heat are far more detrimental to air quality.
- Home oil
heat equipment is so efficient, and emissions are so negligible,
they are not even regulated by the federal Clean Air Act, unlike
other petroleum products.
- Oil poses
one of the least risks of carbon monoxide poisoning to your family.
